About Us

The Omaha Fencing Club has been a part of the fencing scene in Nebraska for a very long time. Our club started out in the 1950ā€™s as volunteers who cared enough about Olympic fencing to share their knowledge with anyone interested. Club members have taught fencing at community centers, schools, and local colleges over the years. Ages of individuals we have taught range from 10 years old to those in their 80ā€™s. Interest in the sport has grown over the years and we incorporated in 2009 and obtained an IRS non-profit 501c3 status in 2014.

Our goal as a club is to provide to anyone interested a chance to practice an engaging sport in a welcome, friendly, and safe atmosphere. Good sportsmanship is important to us and we ask that those fencing with us bring a positive attitude and be ready to get some exercise. We have all the equipment needed to safely practice either foil, epee, or saber and welcome anyone who has a desire to learn and a passion for competition.

We currently offer beginner and advanced classes at two locations in Omaha, NE: west Omaha and in the Dundee neighborhood. Participants in our classes range in skill levels from beginners whom have never held a French-handled practice foil to those that have obtained national ratings and competed in regional and national events. Fencers improve their abilities through classes, one-on-one instruction, and practice bouts during open fencing.

We also host fencing tournaments in Omaha at least twice a year. Our Spring Steel tournament is a novice only event. This is where a new fencer can experience the thrill that is competition without the need to purchase costly equipment. Our Fall Steel tournament is a USA Fencing sanctioned ā€˜Eā€™ and under event for those with more competitive experience and a desire to test themselves against others at their level.
