Intermediate Class
Once you have mastered the basic actions of fencing: a balanced on guard, the advances and retreats, lunges, simple attacks, the parry and riposte as a unit, then it’s time to move on to the intermediate class. In this class we will build upon the groundwork you have constructed for yourself and attempt to add new and exciting actions to your repertoire.
The main approach for our intermediate class is to move complexity and unpredictability to a higher level in your fencing. By covering such topics as compound attacks, use of either passive or active distance control, various actions on the blade, second intention actions, our hope is that you will start to use these naturally and in the proper tactical moment. We will also review rules associated with the sport, and get you ready for bouting, and ultimately, competition.
A student is eligible for the intermediate class typically after 2-3 sessions of the beginner's class and/or advanced beginner's class, along with instructor approval.
The intermediate class is currently held on:
- Wednesdays 6pm to 7:30pm at the Montclair Community Center (Epee)
- Fridays 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Montclair Community Center (Foil)
- All intermediate fencers are highly encouraged to participate in open fencing
(7pm - 9pm both evenings)
